AFL Kids Go Free
As part of a creative exploration for the AFL Kids Go Free campaign,
I developed a full LEGO-style animation test entirely from scratch. The concept
revolves around a quiet, screen-filled morning at home that quickly transforms
into an unforgettable stadium experience, celebrating how AFL can unite
families and ignite joy in kids. I created every 3D scene from scratch,
carefully modeling the living room, LEGO-style characters (mum, dad, the child,
fans, and players), and all the props to feel both authentic and expressive
within the LEGO aesthetic. A key detail is the shift in the characters’ facial
expressions, from bored and disengaged to wide-eyed excitement, along with a
change in clothing from casual homewear to vibrant AFL supporter gear,
reinforcing the emotional and narrative transformation. The footy ball serves
as the magical catalyst, sparking a seamless transition into a dynamic stadium
environment filled with cheering crowds, bold AFL branding, and high energy.
The animation leads up to a LEGO-style recreation of the official AFL Kids Go
Free Month poster, where I replicated and animated its characters and visual
elements using LEGO pieces to tie everything together with a fun and familiar
visual payoff. From set design and character creation to the final poster
animation, every detail was crafted to tell a short but emotionally engaging
story that speaks to both children and parents.
